U10 Girls are Champions of the U10 Boys Division at the Lakeland Spring Challenge
May 15, 2006... The U10 Kumba girls entered the U10 Boys division at the Challenge Sports Lakeland Spring Challenge. The girls had their best performance of the year by winning the Championship of the U10 Boys Silver Division defeating the Brandon Flames 3-2. A year of developing skills, creativity, and teamwork showed its results beginning with a 5-1 victory over local team Lakeland Shockers. The victory got the respect of everyone in the tournament especially the attention of the Brandon Flames who defeated our girls 1 - 5 in the next game. The loss provided a lesson that would pay-off on Sunday. After presenting all the parents with Mothers Day roses, the day began with a 3-1 victory over Orange County Storm. The victory led to a rematch with the Brandon Flames in the Championship game. With a big crowd watching with intrigue, the girls quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first 5 minutes of the game. The girls scored a third goal to start the 2nd half and then gave up some momentum when the boys scored 2 goals to close the gap. With the score 3-2, the U10 Kumba girls took control again almost scoring several more times and closed out the game to defeat the team who beat them the previous day. Throughout the weekend, the girls were complimented not only on their success, but the creativity, passing, and teamwork they displayed every game. Congratulations to Abby, Alex, Brandy, Brianna, Brittany, Greer, Jessica, Kelly, Lisa, Maddie, Nikki, and Rebecca for demonstrating respect, performing with commitment, showing faith in yourselves, using awareness to play the game, and playing with passion the entire weekend!
